Ventilating well in summer: a fresh indoor climate in the heat

In summer, airing is a small art: open the windows at the wrong time and you only let warm, damp air in. With a few simple rules you keep rooms cool and the air fresh, and prevent damp and mould along the way.

Burst ventilation, not tilting

Tilted windows barely exchange any air. Better to air briefly and fully several times a day.

  • Open the windows wide, ideally for a cross-draught.
  • A few minutes are enough for a full air change.
  • Then close again, especially in the heat.

The right time in the heat

In high summer, when you air matters most.

  • Early morning and late evening, when the air outside is cooler.
  • During the heat of the day keep windows and blinds closed.
  • That keeps the warmth out and the cool in.

Avoiding damp and mould

Damp air is the biggest risk factor in summer.

  • Air deliberately after showering, cooking and drying laundry.
  • Let damp air out, do not spread it into other rooms.
  • Move furniture slightly off cool outer walls so the air can circulate.

Good for the climate and your home

Regular, correct airing keeps the air fresh, protects the building fabric and makes for a healthy feel. A cared-for home starts with good air.
